Kayan for Women Empowerment Organization Installs Solar Power System and Rehabilitates Maternity Ward at Adila Rural Hospital, East Darfur
As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening healthcare services and improving access to essential medical care for women and girls in conflict-affected communities, Kayan for Women Empowerment Organization (KWEO) has successfully implemented a healthcare infrastructure improvement initiative at Adila Rural Hospital in East Darfur, Sudan.
The initiative included the maintenance and installation of a solar power system, alongside the rehabilitation and maintenance of the hospital’s maternity and obstetrics ward, with the aim of improving healthcare conditions and creating a safer, more dignified environment for pregnant women, mothers, and newborns.
This intervention responds to the severe challenges facing healthcare facilities across Darfur, particularly frequent electricity shortages, deteriorating infrastructure, and the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict on essential health services.
The solar power system is expected to improve the reliability of electricity supply and support the continuity of critical healthcare services, while the rehabilitation of the maternity ward contributes to improving the quality, safety, privacy, and dignity of maternal healthcare.
Through this initiative, Kayan reaffirms its commitment to protecting women’s and girls’ rights, particularly their fundamental right to accessible, safe, and dignified healthcare.
Kayan continues to work closely with local communities to strengthen essential services, support vulnerable populations, and promote community resilience across Darfur.
